Mike and Jill Diemer have spent more than 30 years building Diemer Properties together from the ground up. Truly self-made, they began with humble beginnings and, through hard work, determination, and a shared passion for real estate, grew Diemer Properties into one of the area’s most successful independently owned and operated real estate investment and property management companies.
Over the years, their experience has grown to include nearly every corner of real estate—from restoring historic homes and managing student housing to residential complexes, condominiums, motels, Airbnbs, commercial properties, redevelopment, and the ground-up construction of the Clock Tower Square complex.
For Mike and Jill, however, success has never been measured simply by the number of properties they own. It is measured by the homes they provide, the relationships they build, and the trust families place in them. As parents themselves, they understand that when a family helps their child choose a home away from home, they want to know there are real people behind the lease—people who are local, accessible, responsive, and who genuinely care about their residents and their properties.
Their commitment to their residents and the Burlington community has been recognized over the years. Jill was voted #1 Landlord by the UVM Student Government Association and received a Neighborhood Leadership Award from former Burlington Mayor Peter Clavelle. She also volunteered for more than 20 years as a UVM off-campus landlord liaison, helping strengthen the relationship between students, landlords, UVM, and the surrounding community.
Giving back has always been an important part of the Diemer's’ lives. Jill has volunteered with COTS’ annual Phonathon for more than 30 years and they have also supported Steps to End Domestic Violence’s Adopt-a-Family holiday program for more than 15 years.
More than three decades after they began, Mike and Jill remain personally involved in their properties and available to their residents. The business may have grown, but the values behind it have remained the same: take pride in every property, be there when residents need you, treat people with respect, and provide the kind of home and experience they would want for their own family.

They started with a small duplex in Winooski and then lived on North Union Street for over a decade. Mike and Jill took great pride in restoring their historic 1877 Italianate Victorian home. Living in the heart of the neighborhood also meant being close neighbors with many of their residents, giving them a firsthand understanding of Burlington’s unique town-and-gown relationship from the perspective of both residents and landlords.
This experience helped shape Diemer Properties’ approach to housing—balancing the needs of students with those of long-term neighborhood residents and fostering respect between both communities.
For more than 20 years, Jill also volunteered as a UVM Landlord Liaison through the Office of Student & Community Relations (OSCR), helping strengthen communication and cooperation among UVM students, landlords, neighbors, and the greater Burlington community.

Mike and Jill eventually purchased the Town and Country Motel on Route 7 in Burlington, which they personally operated for many years. As the hospitality market began shifting away from traditional, independently owned motels toward hotels and short-term rentals, they recognized another pressing need: quality housing in Burlington.
Despite having no previous development experience—and with Mike having never even read a blueprint—they took a leap of faith and completely redeveloped the property. Today, it is Clock Tower Square, a vibrant mixed-use community featuring both commercial and residential spaces.
Conveniently located on Route 7, within two miles of downtown Burlington and the University of Vermont Medical Center, Clock Tower Square offers beautiful residential suites that are especially appealing to medical professionals, medical students and others seeking comfortable, well-maintained housing in a convenient location. Its transformation reflects the vision, adaptability and hands-on approach that continue to define Diemer Properties.

At Diemer Properties, we understand that choosing an off-campus home is an important decision—not only for students, but also for the parents and families supporting them. You want a home that is clean, safe, well cared for, and close to campus. Just as importantly, you want to know that someone local, experienced, and dependable will be available when needed.
That is exactly what we strive to provide.
For more than three decades, our mission has been to offer quality Burlington homes while delivering the personal service, care, and accessibility that set Diemer Properties apart. Most of our properties are located within four blocks of the University of Vermont, making it easy for students to walk to classes, campus activities, and downtown Burlington.
When you rent from Diemer Properties, you work directly with us. Mike and Jill remain personally involved in the daily operation of the business and are locally available 24/7. There is no large, impersonal management company standing between you and the people responsible for your home. Questions are answered, concerns are addressed, and every property receives the attention it deserves.
Although our business has grown, our values have remained the same: take pride in every property, be there when our residents need us, treat people with respect, and provide the kind of home and rental experience we would want for our own children.
You’re not simply renting a Diemer property—you’re experiencing the Diemer Difference.
