About Diemer Properties

Our Story

Mike and Jill Diemer have spent more than 30 years building Diemer Properties together from the ground up. Truly self-made, they began with humble beginnings and, through hard work, determination, and a shared passion for real estate, grew Diemer Properties into one of the area’s most successful independently owned and operated real estate investment and property management companies.

Over the years, their experience has grown to include nearly every corner of real estate—from restoring historic homes and managing student housing to residential complexes, condominiums, motels, Airbnbs, commercial properties, redevelopment, and the ground-up construction of the Clock Tower Square complex.

For Mike and Jill, however, success has never been measured simply by the number of properties they own. It is measured by the homes they provide, the relationships they build, and the trust families place in them. As parents themselves, they understand that when a family helps their child choose a home away from home, they want to know there are real people behind the lease—people who are local, accessible, responsive, and who genuinely care about their residents and their properties.

Their commitment to their residents and the Burlington community has been recognized over the years. Jill was voted #1 Landlord by the UVM Student Government Association and received a Neighborhood Leadership Award from former Burlington Mayor Peter Clavelle. She also volunteered for more than 20 years as a UVM off-campus landlord liaison, helping strengthen the relationship between students, landlords, UVM, and the surrounding community.

Giving back has always been an important part of the Diemer's’ lives. Jill has volunteered with COTS’ annual Phonathon for more than 30 years and has supported Steps to End Domestic Violence’s Adopt-a-Family holiday program for more than 15 years.

More than three decades after they began, Mike and Jill remain personally involved in their properties and available to their residents. The business may have grown, but the values behind it have remained the same: take pride in every property, be there when residents need you, treat people with respect, and provide the kind of home and experience they would want for their own family.

ABOUT DIEMER PROPERTIES

Humble Beginnings

They stated with a small duplex in Winooski and then lived on North Union Street for over a decade.  Mike and Jill took great pride in restoring their historic 1877 Italianate Victorian home. Living in the heart of the neighborhood also meant being close neighbors with many of their residents, giving them a firsthand understanding of Burlington’s unique town-and-gown relationship from the perspective of both residents and landlords.

This experience helped shape Diemer Properties’ approach to housing—balancing the needs of students with those of long-term neighborhood residents and fostering respect between both communities.

For more than 20 years, Jill also volunteered as a UVM Landlord Liaison through the Office of Student & Community Relations (OSCR), helping strengthen communication and cooperation among UVM students, landlords, neighbors, and the greater Burlington community.

Our Mission

At Diemer Properties, our mission is simple: to provide well cared for unit in great Burlington locations while delivering the personal service, care, and accessibility that have defined our family-owned business for decades.

From one-bedroom apartments and historic homes to larger residential units and townhouses, we have built a diverse portfolio with an emphasis on quality, location, and safety. Most of our properties are located within four blocks of the University of Vermont and UVM Medical Center, allowing our residents to live close to the heart of the Burlington community.

But we believe being a good landlord means much more than providing a place to live. Mike and Jill remain personally involved in the day-to-day operation of Diemer Properties and are locally available 24/7. Our residents deal directly with us—not a large, impersonal management company—so questions are answered, concerns are addressed, and our properties receive the attention they deserve.

Our philosophy has remained the same as our business has grown: take pride in our properties, be there for our residents, treat people with respect, and provide the kind of housing experience we would want for our own family.

You’re not simply renting a Diemer property—you’re experiencing the Diemer Difference.

Motel Dreams

They eventually purchased the Town and Country Motel on Route 7 in Burlington. For years, they managed it themselves until they noticed the market shifting toward hotels and Airbnb's instead of the traditional mom-and-pop motels. With the growing demand for Burlington housing and no prior experience in development, they took a leap of faith and redeveloped the property into what is now Clock Tower Square, a vibrant mix of commercial and residential space. This transformation also aligns with the needs medical professionals and medical students looking for beautiful suites located near the University of Vermont Medical Center. Thus, further enhancing the appeal of the area under the management of Diemer Properties.
